Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder. This means a child knows what they want to say, but their brain has difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech. It is not caused by muscle weakness, and children do not outgrow it without support. With appropriate, consistent therapy, children with CAS can make meaningful progress in their communication.
